| Working and Treatment of
Oxybutynin - Ditropan XL , Oxytrol |
Oxybutynin is used in the treatment of overactive bladder.
Oxybutynin falls under the classification of anticholinergics and as
a result it prevents the formation of a chemical called
acetylcholine which acts on the receptors of the muscles on the wall
of the urinary bladder which usually causes the bladder wall to
contract and this leads to frequent urination. It relaxes the muscle
wall of the bladder and as a result the capacity of the bladder
increases to hold the urine for longer time.
This drug is used in treating the symptoms like frequent or urgent
urination and increased urination in the night. Oxybutynin may
reduce the frequency of bathroom visits. As Oxybutynin falls under
the class of antispasmodics it works best to relieve the symptoms
associated with overactive bladder.
